This year in modern literature at Yeshiva Atlanta, I expect to read some great books. Usually in English courses, we read old, boring novels. These novels usually teach good lessons, but do not make for a very interesting read. Modern literature usually applies more to our society and is easier to relate to. I expect class to be full of compelling discussions and debates.
One book I particularly look forward to reading is Maus. I read both of the Maus books during my freshman year and I enjoyed them very much. The novel, or comic book (however you want to look at it), has an original style, while still getting its dramatic lesson across. One thing that I do dread doing this year is cause fair. From what I hear, it is the most difficult, time consuming task that you will ever do at Yeshiva.
My main goal for this year is to improve my writing. In the past, I have generally managed B+ and A- on all of my essays. This year, I look to consistently get A's and hopefully higher. I would like to learn, possibly teaching myself, better writing techniques. Overall, I expect this year to be a wonderful, but new experience. With some hard work and dedication, this could be one of my best years (academically) ever.
